new project {financial peace university}

anyone that knows me, knows i have a knack for 'overbooking' myself. so, here's my latest project. and it wasn't planned - i have my sister to thank for this. she pestered me about it until i caved. thanks sherry!!! :) i wanted to give an introduction because i'm sure i'll be posting more about it in the future.
anyway, she and her husband are leading the 13-week course of financial peace university at their church. if you're not familiar with it (i wasn't), it's a program by dave ramsey. it's purpose is to help you learn to save, get out of debt, and just generally understand all things *personal finances* better. honestly, it's the crap everyone should learn in high school before you cross the stage with your diploma to enter the real world. but unfortunately, it's not taught there.

i wasn't big on the idea at first, but since sherry was persistent, i did some research. there are plenty of pretty impressive testimonies so i decided to try it...but first i had to talk matt into it. he's still not 100% sold, but he's in.
the first lesson/class was actually last tuesday night while we were on vacation. the kit comes with CDs of each lesson (in the class you watch a video). matt listened to the CD already and i'm going to do so in a few minutes. we had four chapters to read, which i've already done and matt has started (claiming he'll finish tomorrow). lesson 2 is tomorrow night and i'll be going alone because matt has to work. i also found an fpu facebook page and have spent some time checking out the message boards for fpu members on the dave ramsey website.
if you're interested in learning more about dave ramsey and all that he has to offer, here are some additional links:
the dave ramsey show (on radio) i just subscribed to get his podcasts, which are free
dave ramsey on fox business (tv)
there is a ton more on his website....
i think that's enough for now...i'll update as we go through the class. it's going to be a tough ride! off to listen to lesson one now!
