december ten: wisdom
What was the wisest decision you made this year, and how did it play out? (Author: Susannah Conway)

earlier this year, i was presented with a scenario at work that had me quite worried. a coworker had resigned, allowing me to finally take back over some responsibilities that had been passed to her long ago when i went on maternity leave. since returning, after coleman's birth, i was very unhappy at work and with my position. this was what i'd been hoping would happen (not the coworker leaving, just the opportunity).

unfortunately, the expectations that came with the change were unexpected by me. if i wanted to take advantage of new opportunities at work, i'd have to report to the office daily. this meant i'd be back to a full hour (plus) commute each way, on a daily basis. working from home would no longer be an option. i could keep my current arrangement but it was unclear as to what the future would hold for me under those circumstances.

i'm not going to sugarcoat it. this transition has been agonizing. matt and i have totally had to revamp how our household is run. i've had to adjust when i do errands, and most importantly, how to maximize my (limited) time with my family. i'm blessed to have a boss that values family and has made concessions to allow me to spend a bit more time with them. but things are still different.

despite the original fear, the dreaded change and the numerous adjustments...it was obviously the right choice. i'm one hundred percent happier at work with my new responsibilities. leaving your child never gets easier, but leaving him for a job you hate - that's tough. the days go by more quickly and smoothly because i enjoy what i'm doing.

do i miss my little guy? like crazy! does laundry pileup? heck yeah. am i racking up milage on my car? you betcha. but, in the long run, this was the right move for our family, for right now. i'm thankful for the opportunity and for the wisdom to know it was right.

***what is reverb10?***
Reverb 10 is an annual event and online initiative to reflect on your year and manifest what’s next. The end of the year is an opportunity to reflect on what's happened, and to send out reverberations for the year ahead. With Reverb 10, we'll do both.
sidenote: i decided to back date these posts to match the prompt dates. new posts will always show up "on top" in a reader, but if you come directly to the blog, you may need to scroll down a bit to find these daily *reverb* posts.
